What the integration does
Connecting Salesforce lets you send any PE firm, company, investment bank, law firm or professional from Mergr into your org with one click. Firms and companies arrive as Accounts; people arrive as Contacts on their employer's Account. You sign in to Salesforce, approve access, and you are back in Mergr.
Before you start
An active Mergr membership. CRM pushes are not available during a free trial. On the Integrations page you can end your trial and start a membership, and the integration unlocks straight away.
Your own Mergr sign-in. CRM connections are personal to each user, so a shared team login can't connect.
A Salesforce edition with API access: Enterprise, Unlimited, Performance or Developer. Professional Edition works only with Salesforce's API add-on.
One CRM at a time. If HubSpot is connected, disconnect it first.
First connection in your org: a Salesforce admin
The first time anyone in your company connects, Mergr sets up its fields in Salesforce (listed below) and creates a permission set called Mergr Integration that makes those fields visible. Creating fields needs administrator rights, so the first person to connect should be a Salesforce administrator. The admin needs a Mergr account of their own to do this.
After that, teammates who are not Salesforce admins can connect too, once an admin assigns them the Mergr Integration permission set (Setup → Users → Permission Sets → Mergr Integration → Manage Assignments). Admins who connect are assigned it automatically.
Connect Salesforce
In Mergr, open the account menu and choose Integrations (mergr.com/user/integrations).
On the Salesforce card, click Connect.
Sign in to Salesforce with the account you want Mergr to use.
Review the access Mergr asks for and click Allow.
Salesforce sends you back to Mergr, where the Salesforce card now shows Connected. Your first push finishes the field setup, so it can take a few seconds longer than later ones.
What Mergr can access in Salesforce
Mergr uses the standard API access Salesforce grants to connected apps. It reads Accounts and Contacts to check for duplicates, creates and updates the records you push, and, for the first admin connection, creates its fields and permission set. It never deletes records and does not touch Opportunities, Leads, Cases or activity history.
Fields Mergr adds
Field | Object | What it holds |
Mergr ID | Account, Contact | Mergr's identifier, e.g. |
Mergr Entity Type | Account | PE Firm, Company, Investment Bank or Law Firm. |
Mergr Industry | Account | The investor type for firms, the sector for companies. |
Mergr Profile URL | Account | A link back to the record on mergr.com. |
Legal Name (Mergr) | Account | The registered name when the record is pushed under a trading name. |
Ownership (Mergr) | Account | PE Backed, Acquired, Public or Private. |
Current Owner (Mergr) | Account | The company's current owner, when it has one. |
Owned Since (Mergr) | Account | When the current owner acquired it. |
Salesforce does not add new fields to page layouts automatically. To see them on Account and Contact pages, an admin can add them in Setup → Object Manager → Account (or Contact) → Page Layouts. They are available in reports and list views straight away.
Disconnect or switch to HubSpot
Go to Integrations, open Salesforce and click Disconnect. Mergr's access is revoked immediately. Records you have already pushed, and the Mergr fields, stay in Salesforce. To use HubSpot instead, disconnect Salesforce first, then connect HubSpot.
