How to guide for the Mergr for Salesforce plugin

Updated over a week ago

The Mergr Salesforce Integration helps users enrich existing accounts or leads inside Salesforce with Mergr data. You can look-up and add new accounts as well as link existing accounts. Accounts that are linked to Mergr are updated with M&A related updates.

Here is a brief guide to how the integration works.

Salesforce Integration

Searching Records on Mergr and Creating New Accounts or Leads

Searching

The Mergr for Salesforce plugin connects your Salesforce system to the Mergr PE/M&A database via an API. You can search for new records as well as link existing records to Mergr.

To search records on Mergr and import new accounts or leads into Salesforce, select the Mergr Search tab.

The Mergr Search tab allows you to search records by name and import directly into your Salesforce instance. Records available for search include Companies, Investors, Legal Advisors (law firms), and Financial Advisors (investment banks).

After entering a search, you will see the list of results. Next to each name is the record category in parentheses.

Note: When looking up companies, you can also search by stock symbol. Eg. enter ADBE for Adobe.

You will also see two action buttons. These include New Account and New Lead.

If you would like to add a record as an account, select New Account. If you would prefer to add as a lead, select New Lead.

Selecting either New Account or New Lead will pop-open a modal window where you will have the opportunity to review, edit, and select Save or Save and New.

Selecting Save will take you to the newly created Salesforce ‘Account’ page for that record.

Note: If you search for a Mergr record that has already been linked and is inside Salesforce – in place of New Account or New Lead you will see the buttons Go To Account and Go To Lead. Selecting Go To Account will take you directly to the Salesforce account page for that record.

Viewing Linked Accounts or Leads

Viewing

When an account or lead has been linked to or imported from Mergr – fields of data are passed to Salesforce. These include M&A related data fields, as wells as data such as name and location.

Depending on record type and how your Salesforce Administrator has mapped the Mergr integration, there are a variety of data fields available to view.

Mergr Profile View

If your Salesforce Administrator has set-up and enabled the Mergr Profile page view, you can also view the complete profile that exists within the Mergr Web application.

To view the Mergr profile, select the Mergr tab within the Account view.

There is a lot of data within the profile view. Depending on data type, you can view complete M&A histories, management, recent activity, and more. You can also click on any records to view more.

Linking and Unlinking Existing Accounts or Leads

Linking

If an account or lead already exists in Salesforce and has not been linked with Mergr, selecting the Mergr tab will deliver a search page allowing you to look up a matching record from Mergr and optionally link to Salesforce.

Enter the name of the entity you would like to match.

If you find an appropriate match – select Link.

Once linked – available Mergr data will be imported to the Salesforce account and the search field will convert to the Mergr profile view.

Unlinking

If you would like to un-match, you can do so by selecting Unlink From Mergr.

Please note that Unlinking from Mergr does not delete previously imported data from Mergr. If a record was linked in error and then re-linked to a new record, this will overwrite the previously added data.

Syncing

Accounts (or leads) with data fields that have been linked to Mergr are automatically ‘synced’ to Mergr for updates on a weekly basis. This occurs each Saturday, at midnight, CST US time in the US.

However, you can manually ‘Sync’ individual records as well.

To do so, select Sync With Mergr.
