Set up the Mergr AI Connector (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity & more)

The Mergr connector lets your AI assistant look things up in Mergr and answer from them, so you can ask "which PE firms would buy a $30M HVAC distributor in Texas?" or "who has owned Imperial Dade, and for how long?" and get an answer built from Mergr's deal, ownership and advisor records. Every answer links back to the matching mergr.com profile.

It is read-only. The connector can search and read Mergr; it cannot add, change or delete anything.

It works with Claude (web, desktop, Claude Code), ChatGPT, Codex, Perplexity, and any other assistant that supports the MCP standard. Setup for each is below; all of them use the same Mergr sign-in.

You need a Mergr account with an active membership or trial. When the connector asks you to sign in, use the same email and password you use on mergr.com. If you do not have an account yet, the sign-in window has a link to start one.

Your AI assistant needs to support connectors (sometimes called apps, plugins or MCP servers). Most paid plans do; check your assistant's settings for a Connectors or Apps section.

Mergr is in the ChatGPT app directory, so setup takes about a minute.

If you prefer to add Mergr by hand (for example in a workspace where the directory is disabled), go to Settings, then Apps, enable Developer mode under Advanced, choose Create app, name it Mergr, enter the address https://mcp.mergr.com/chatgpt, and choose OAuth as the authentication method. Some workspaces need an admin to allow Developer mode.

Mergr is in Claude's connector directory.

To add it by hand instead, choose Add custom connector on the same Connectors page, enter the address https://mcp.mergr.com/connector, click Add, and sign in when prompted.

The first time Claude uses a Mergr tool it asks for permission. Choose Always allow to stop the prompts.

Claude Code. Run this once in your terminal, then type /mcp inside Claude Code and follow the sign-in link:

Codex. Add Mergr to ~/.codex/config.toml, then restart Codex and sign in when it asks:

Both clients fire many requests in parallel when they research. That is fine, but if you see a rate-limit message, let the agent pause for a minute rather than retrying immediately.

Perplexity (Pro, Max and Enterprise plans): open Settings, then Connectors, choose Custom connector, select Remote, name it Mergr, enter https://mcp.mergr.com/connector, and sign in. In a new thread, select Mergr as a source.

Any other MCP client: add a remote server at https://mcp.mergr.com/connector with OAuth sign-in. There is nothing else to configure; the connector handles the sign-in flow itself.

The connector works best when you ask it a question rather than ask for a list. It can search, rank, match and trace, and it is good at combining those steps into an answer.

Each answer carries links to the mergr.com profiles behind it, so you can open the full record, the ownership history, or the original press release when you need the detail.

Every account has a daily allowance of connector requests and records, measured over a rolling 24 hours. It is sized for research sessions, including agents that fire many requests at once, and most members never notice it. Trial accounts have a smaller allowance than members; it expands automatically when a trial converts.

If you reach the limit, your assistant will tell you. The allowance frees up gradually over the following hours; there is no need to retry in the meantime, and repeated retries after a limit message can pause access for an hour.

The connector is for your own research and deal work. Bulk extraction, paging through the catalogue record by record, enumerating records by ID, and redistributing Mergr data are not permitted and lead to suspension of connector access. The connector follows your mergr.com subscription. While it is active, including after you cancel and until the paid period ends, the connector works. Once it ends, every request returns a message saying the subscription is no longer active.

You can re-activate without leaving your assistant: ask it to re-activate your Mergr subscription. It shows you the plan, the price and the card Mergr has on file, and charges that card only after you confirm. Access is restored on the next request.

Your Mergr password is only ever entered on the Mergr sign-in page at mcp.mergr.com and verified against mergr.com. It is never shared with the AI assistant. The assistant receives a token it can use to query Mergr on your behalf, which you can revoke at any time by disconnecting Mergr in the assistant's settings.

The connector is read-only, and nothing you type into your assistant is sent to Mergr except the requests the assistant makes to Mergr's tools. Mergr records which tools were called and when, for each account, to run the allowances above and to detect bulk extraction. Mergr does not see your conversation.
