How to Search M&A Transactions by Industry Sector

Find deals in a specific sector — healthcare services, machinery, software, anything in Mergr's sector taxonomy — for market mapping, deal counts, sector trend pitches, or sourcing context

Step 1 — Open the Transaction Search page

From the top navigation, click Transactions to open the Transaction Search page. This is the main deal-search interface — every M&A transaction in Mergr is searchable here.

Navigate to the Transaction Search page.

Step 2 — Find the Sector filter

On the Transaction Search page, locate the Sector dropdown inside the Target Criteria row. This row controls filters that apply to the *target* company in each deal — not the acquirer.

Step 3 — Pick one or more sectors, then search

Open the dropdown and pick any sector — or multiple. Mergr currently covers 60+ industry sectors.

When you select multiple sectors, the search returns deals where the target matches any of them (a union, not an intersection). This broadens your result set rather than narrowing it — useful when you want a single combined view across adjacent industries (e.g., Construction + Building Materials).

Click Search.

Results show every transaction where the target company falls in your selected sector(s).

Tips

  • Save searches. You can save your search for faster recall later. Saved searches appear on your Dashboard as well as the Saved Searches page.

  • Save deals to a list. You can also pick deals to save to a custom list of deals. Your saved lists can be accessed on the Saved Lists page.
